What is grand goulets?

Grand Goulets is a narrow gorge located in the Vercors Regional Park of France. It is considered to be one of the most challenging and scenic driving routes in Europe, with steep cliffs and hairpin turns. The road was built in the early 19th century as a military strategic route, but has since become a popular attraction for thrill-seeking drivers and hikers.

The road through Grand Goulets is about 10km in length and reaches a height of over 1,200 meters. The route is lined with massive rock formations, waterfalls, and tunnels cut into the mountainside. In addition to the stunning natural scenery, Grand Goulets offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and mountains.

The road is only open to traffic during certain times of the year due to snow and ice, and vehicles longer than 2 meters or wider than 2.5 meters are not allowed to drive through. Hikers can explore the area on foot through various trails, including a popular trek that follows the road and takes approximately 4-5 hours to complete.

Despite its beauty, Grand Goulets can be dangerous. The road is narrow and winding, with no guardrails and steep drops. Accidents are not uncommon, and travelers are advised to exercise caution while driving or hiking in the area.
